BIO

Ben Gailer (BMus(Hons), ATCL) is a pianist, composer/arranger, and music teacher based in Auckland, New Zealand.  His diverse range of musical skills have been recognised with awards and scholarships such as:

  • Anne Bellam Scholarship (2020, University of Auckland)

  • University of Auckland Postgraduate Scholarship (University of Auckland, 2020)

  • Summer Research Scholarship (University of Auckland, 2019)

  • 2019 Senior Scholar Award (2019, University of Auckland)

  • ATCL Diploma in Classical Piano Performance with Distinction (Trinity College London, 2018)

  • Performing Artist of the Year (2016, Rangitoto College

  • Best Saxophonist (2016, NZSM Jazz Project)

  • Outstanding Creativity Award (Rangitoto College, 2016).

He performs regularly as both a soloist and as a member of a variety of ensembles around New Zealand.

PIANO LESSONS

Ben's home piano studio features a beautiful Yamaha YUS5 Upright Piano, a customised Fender Rhodes Mk I Electric Piano and a growing library of teaching resources and sheet music.  His teaching method is inspired by the philosophy of Dr Shinichi Suzuki and covers the diverse range of skills a musician needs in the 21st Century, including building a solid foundation of pianistic technique and tone production, aural training, sight-reading, music theory, improvisation and composition.
